Program Goal
“Ensure cultural needs are recognized by all stakeholders.”
There is a critical gap in how the global sports movement accommodates Islamic values and practices. Without a unified voice to advocate for these needs, Muslim athletes are left to navigate these challenges on their own. The ISSA recognizes the requirement to raise awareness on Muslim athletes’ needs when participating in major global events.
Voice Up is designed to empower athletes to raise awareness, share experiences and guide stakeholders towards creating an inclusive sports environment.
Challenges were identified in:
- The global sports calendar often overlooks the specific needs of Muslim athletes
- Lack of representation of Muslim athletes’ requirements
- Absence of a united voice for the accommodation of Islamic practices
Cultural observance conflicts, discriminatory policies and cultural barriers, and limited visibility and representation of role models have impacted Muslim athletes.
Projected impact
Voice Up unites athletes across ISSA member countries, offering them a space to voice their needs and concerns, while educating stakeholders and the broader sports community on the importance of these issues.
The program consists of three components:
Perspective gathering
Developing stories, publications and proposals
Strategic distribution, communication and outreach
Need for a structured movement
Proactive, well-organized efforts
Specific objectives and clear frameworks
Address long-term challenges in a structured way
